The cool breeze rolling off the ocean, the warm sun dancing off your skin and a fresh tropical drink on ice to welcome you to your resort. Welcome to Cancun.

Having the opportunity to join a couple for their destination wedding is by far one of the most amazing opportunities that a wedding photographer can be graced with. There’s nothing more beautiful than a bride in a gorgeous wedding gown wrapped up with her hubby staring our into the tropical sunset. With so many breath-taking locations to work with on a destination wedding, its a shame to not take advantage of them to their fullest.

Not only are able to capture the couple in their gorgeous destination surroundings, but we are given to chance to really spend some time getting to know the couple, creating personal bonds that are far more valuable than any portfolio material we might have the opportunity to create. Sharing these moments with Lindsey and John was no exception. The only thing more beautiful than a place like Cancun is the love that Lindsey and John share for each other. I am (still) overjoyed to have been given this opportunity to share such an special time with Lindsey and John, and all of their close friends and family. This was an experience that Haley and I will remember for the rest of our lives.

During our initial consultation with Lindsey and John, Lindsey had mentioned how a few of her friends that had been recently married would be joining us for their destination wedding. She had mentioned that they were interested in bringing along their wedding gowns and doing a group shoot once we arrived! Four gorgeous brides to shoot on a Cancun beach? Heck ya! What a way to kick off our trip. By the end of the shoot, we were even able to talk Jaime (who happened to be one of our bride’s from earlier that summer!) into a mini Trash-the-Dress session! Here are a few highlights from the session.

After a few relaxing days at the pool, the big day had finally arrived!!

Lindsey and John decided to do a “First Look,” which was such a special moment for the two of them. This allowed them to have a private moment right before the ceremony and calm their nerves a bit. 🙂

As with any destination wedding, what would be more appropriate than an small, intimate wedding right there on the beach. Take your shoes off, roll up your pants and enjoy the sand between your toes!

As part of the resort’s wedding package, they also offered Lindsey and John (and all of their guests) something completely unique. Directly after their traditional ceremony, we walked down the beach about 200 feet to where they held a traditional Mayan wedding ceremony, complete with drums, a conch (blown like a horn), spirit cleansing and a butterfly release. Super cool experience!

And time for the celebration!!

By the end of the night, everyone decided to get a little spunky and hop into the pool in their dresses! Whooohooooo!!!

Of course, no destination wedding would be complete without a Trash-the-Dress session on the beach! In fact, this session was actually shot in two parts. The first was with a sunset and the second was the next morning with a sunrise. Worth every moment. These two cool-cats rocked my world.

Another HUGE, huge thanks to Lindsey, John and all of your wonderful family and friends for making Haley and I feel so incredibly welcomed on this journey. We had such a blast sharing this experience with you and will cherish these memories for the rest of our lives.

Here are some of the wonderful words that Lindsey wanted to share about her experience:

“When my husband and I first got engaged we knew that our number one priority was finding a photographer. Your pictures will share the memories of your wedding day forever. Between ads on facebook and recommendations from friends, we had an overabundance of options to choose a photographer. We chose Matt for many reasons and even when we chose Mexico as our wedding location, we knew Matt still needed to be our photographer. After spending a week with him for the wedding I don’t have enough positive things to say about him as a photographer and as a person. His talent shows through his work, but his geniune character and vibrant personality are something that can’t be matched. He really thought outside the box and all of our photos reflect his creative ideas. Right before the wedding he even pitched the idea of renting an underwater housing for his camera to shoot some pictures underwater. The pictures he got of us and my family in the pool are ones I’ll cherish forever. Booking Matt for our wedding one was one of the best decisions we ever made!”
