The cards are down and Elyse and Jeff are all in!
Engagement sessions are a chance to really let your subjects personalities shine. When helping them decide on a theme, I always make it a point to try and personalize their shoot as much as possible. If you’re able to connect their personal lives to their photo session, the images that you create will have infinite more meaning for them in years to come. I like to start by communicating with the couple to figure out what types of things are important to them, both individually and as a couple. What types of styles do they like? What kind of activities do they enjoy together? What types of hobbies do they enjoy on their free time? Sometimes, the clues can be subtle and may take a little bit of brainstorming. Other times, they hit like a freight train.
Enter….Elyse and Jeff. During our planning stages, poker, cigars and whiskey on the rocks, became a topic of conversation. I had suggested to Elyse that I had always loved the thought of a poker engagement shoot and had been wanting to plan one for quite some time. No more than 30 second later, I received an email from Elyse informing me that her and Jeff play poker every Saturday night with her family! Done, done and done. 🙂
