The History of Meyer’s Castle
Meyer’s Castle was designed by architect Cosbey Bernard and completed in 1931. It was built as the private residence for a herbologist, and millionaire, named Joseph Meyer. Meyer had previously seen a beautiful castle in Scotland and chose to have his home built as a replica, in the Jacobethan style. Meyer lived in the castle and continued to practice herbology in the surrounding forest until his death in 1950. His wife lived in the castle until her own death many years later, at which time the massive structure was sold to a development company and turned into a commercial property.
Spaces
Thousands of square footage means there are plenty of options for a unique wedding day. Whether the bride imagines a rustic outdoor wedding with lush greenery as the backdrop to her vows, or a classy indoor banquet with plenty of room for a band and a dance floor, Meyer’s Castle has it all.
Several outdoor spaces make lovely ceremony sights, complete with stone walkways, wooden doorways, and Scottish architecture. These features only add to the “castle” atmosphere and will make the bride feel like a true princess. But the outdoor spaces aren’t solely available for ceremonies; in fact, many of the areas are large enough to be tented, making outdoor receptions at Meyer’s Castle a possibility as well.
Unlike the typically bland country-club venue, Meyer’s Castle’s indoor spaces seem fit for royalty due to their gleaming hardwood floors, large picture windows, and intricate designs. Plenty of square footage is available for dining and dancing, allowing the guests to mingle without feeling too crowded. The multitudes of spaces available at this venue allow the bride and groom to separate their ceremony and reception areas. Guests will appreciate not having to wait for the room to be flipped between one event and the next, and the bride will love how the entire day flows seamlessly. The available bridal suite at Meyer’s Castle will also add convenience and comfort on the day of the wedding.
