Engagement sessions are an awesome opportunity to meet, greet and get to know one another before the wedding. Its always a fun sneak-peek into the personality of the couple that you’re working with, giving you an idea of what to expect once the wedding day finally arrives. This is hugely important to both parties involved, both photographer and the couple alike. Some couples, usually more than not, require a good bit of time to warm up to the camera. A little coaching here, a few jokes there, and we’re off and running. As a photographer, this is what I’m used to. It makes my job fun and challenges me to work with all types of personalities, keeping me on my toes (in a good way!).
On the flip side to that, sometimes a couple comes along that just clicks (no pun intended). They are completely comfortable with each other, with their relationship, and in turn…the camera. This is exactly what I found to be true with Jessica and Jeff. These two are an amazing couple — sweet, genuine, and full of love. Even in the hot, humid, midwest summer air, there wasn’t a single moment that their smiles weren’t shining bright. A true pleasure to work with.
With Jeff working as a landscape designer, they knew right off the bat that they were aiming for a location for their engagement session that was rich in scenery — flowers, beautiful trees, beautiful landscaping — all of the wonderful things that the Midwest has to offer. That being said, we couldn’t think of a better spot than the one-and-only Taltree Arboretum and Gardens. A hidden gem of Valparaiso, Taltree is a gorgeous oak preserve with beautifully manicured landscapes, gardens, woodlands and grass fields. For a small entrance fee, you’re free to roam the entire grounds, making use of all that the space has to offer.
The crazy thing about this date is that our weather forecast was calling for thunderstorms just about all day. This brave couple decided to play their odds. No risk, no reward, right? As a payoff for their wagered risk, we were rewarded with bright sun shining through the entire session. Just goes to show you how much you can rely on Northwest Indiana Weather…
