Just one more thing I love about shooting out in Northwest Indiana for engagement sessions and weddings! There are so many beautiful location in this area, and engagement sessions tend to be so laid back, comfortable and fun. Don’t get me wrong, I adore working downtown Chicago and other big cities as well, but they each come with their own vibes.

Kyle’s family has a beautiful piece of land located on the outskirts of Valparaiso, Indiana.  Both Holly and Kyle spend quite a bit of time there, fishing, boating and riding their Harley, so what better place to spend the day photographing their engagement session!  It’s always great when a couple is able to feel “right at home” when shooting.  🙂

Holly and Kyle had a little friendly competition…Kyle would use a fishing lure, Holly would use her toes.

Sabotage! Haha!

I absolutely loved this location.  This looks like somewhere straight out of the Pacific Northwest.  Such a peaceful place to sit and relax for an engagement session!

Holly’s turn to give it a whirl!  We’ll see if she has any better luck.  😉

Whammy!!  Scored a nice little bass!

We’ve all heard the story of the frog prince, right?  Anyone heard the one of the fish prince?  Pucker up!!

The reflections on the water is one of my favorite things about shooting in locations like this — so romantic and calming.

Kyle had an old fishing boat laying around, so we decided to take it for a spin.  Thankfully, we remembered to check the plug BEFORE they got into the water.  I don’t have my lifeguard certification just yet…so I was hoping they knew how to swim.  😉

The water’s edge I was shooting from was lined with all kinds of tall grasses and flowers.  Shooting through different objects like this is a great way to add romance and seclusion to an image.  It gives the feeling as though you are peeking into a moment that’s meant to be shared only between the couple, observing their intimate moment from afar.

Kyle and Holly are big Harley Davidson fans.  How could we pass up an opportunity to represent??

It turns out that there’s a very cool story behind this tree.  Apparently, Kyle planted this tree when he was just a little boy.  At the time, the tree only stood no more than a few feet tall.  Now that his parents are looking to sell their home and move on, we thought this would be a perfect way to remember his tree forever.

As I mentioned earlier, Holly and Kyle are big Harley Davidson fans.  Getting out and riding is one of their favorite things to do in their free time.  They’ve taken all kinds of trips across the US, 3 trips up and around Lake Michigan, and all kinds of riding locally.  Surely we’d have to incorporate their bike in some of their engagement photos!
